Road to Hana

Janie pushed for the drive to Hana as Jeff had not done before.  7:00 a.m. target departure was almost made with a stop to grab some cash thought we would need for vendors.  The drive if never taken is from the Hilton Grand to Hana the town about 58 miles, which we went past for another 10+.  The road entails 26+ miles of very curvy roads (think switch backs, max 10-15 miles an hour) with in and out of bright sun to full shade while navigating cars in front and oncoming traffic.  Not too mention the drop off in many places is straight down literally.  600+ curves times 2 makes for a workout.  Not something you'd want to do if scared of driving or get car sick.

Rare straight away - actually down hill

We decided to push all the way there with no stops to beat all traffic and once we got to Hanna followed the road around the east side of the island, which was closed to through traffic 13 miles south.  About mile marker 41 we found the church where Lindbergh and his monkeys are buried.  His granddaughter still manages the property.  Very off the grid lifestyle on this side of the island with a single asphalt road.

Close by was the National Park with the Seven Sacred Pools, that we saw from the road, versus hiking.  Kind of a miss because naming is the Ohe'o Gulch.  Chose to not go back, but would recommend stopping if you make it there on a visit.

Back to Hana where after a few false stops got to porta potties for Janie!  At the beach at the bottom of Hana, which is a few city blocks in all directions up the hillside.  The we hit a food truck for local BBQ and Shrimp lunch.

After that the trek back with periodic stops and the last being the twin falls.  This is a private land owner that has two water falls with swimming holes at the base.  We parked ($10) and did the 20 minute hike up to the falls.  If you've never swum under a fall, then take your bathing suit.  The waterfall was average, but everyone seemed to enjoy the swim.  Our experience on Kuai was much larger in nature with water volume and height of the falls.

Do I get my shoes wet or not, yup she did!

Back home with stop at Safeway for a few things and snacks and leftover dinner topped off with Moose Track ice cream from Gold Meadow (brand we don't see).
